Chapter 9 - Building

9-1 The Building (Amendment) Regulations 2003, SI 2003/2692, introduce requirements designed to help the disabled. Link to HMSO for these Regulations.

9-5 The list is not exhaustive - other changes may also trigger the requirement.

9-10 Inspection can be carried out by "approved inspectors", i.e. inspectors appointed privately. Some public bodies may supervise their own compliance with the Building Regulations, under s. 54 of the Building Act 1984.

9-11 "Generally" because, by reg. 22, it is not an offence to contravene reg. 17, which deals with completion certificates.

9-12 In some cases there will be a further right of appeal, to the High Court.

9-18 The term "building line" is sometimes used to mean the line naturally formed by houses or other buildings in a road, even where no line has been prescribed under the Highways Act 1980.

9-19 It is not entirely clear on what basis compensation would be paid.

9-34 Section 161 also penalises lighting fires in highways, and playing football and other games to the annoyance of users of the highway.

9-34 A collapse of part of a building, or scaffolding, might be within this section.

9-35 Section 133: damage might be damage to paving slabs, traces of cement, etc etc.

9-41 The Prescription Act 1832 has a slightly different effect in relation to easements of light.
